The Geological Society of Hong Kong was founded on the 26th July 1982 with the aim of furthering the study of geology and providing a forum for both professionals and amateurs to meet. The society began to publish a bimonthly Newsletter of general interest subjects, meetings and fieldtrips. As more technical papers began to be submitted, the Newsletter was expanded and changed to a quarterly publication. In 1995, the publication was split into a newsheet, which presents news of events to members, and a journal , which contains papers and articles on Hong Kong and the adjacent region.
